Chasing the Final Tenth: Inside Our Latest Turn-Key Ferrari Challenge Simulator

For the modern automotive enthusiast who demands the very best, time is the ultimate luxury. Whether you are attacking the apexes at Watkins Glen on a track day or competing at the highest levels of customer racing, seat time is everything. But what happens when you can’t get to the track?

At Rocky Sim Racing (RSR), our sole mission is to solve that problem. We build and deliver ultra-premium, turn-key simulators directly to our clients. We specialize in curating the finest hardware on the market—integrating elite brands like Advanced SimRacing, D-BOX, Simucube, Bavarian SimTec, Gomez Sim Industries (GSI), and Moza—to create uncompromising, visceral racing experiences.

Recently, we were tasked with a bespoke build that perfectly encapsulates what we do best. Here is a look behind the curtain at our latest project.

The Build: A Bespoke Training Weapon

We were recently approached by a real-world Ferrari Challenge driver who needed a serious competitive edge. In a spec series where the cars are identical, the driver is the ultimate performance variable. His goal was ambitious but necessary: he needed a rig capable of replicating the violent, precise nature of his race car so he could log 80 to 100 hours of practice in preparation for every single race weekend.

To meet this demand, we took no short cuts and deployed our engineered mounts and cable system for absolute consistency, no power bars or USB hubs disconnecting. What were the large parts to make this build possible:

  • The Foundation: Advanced SimRacing Pro Chassis. The gold standard in structural rigidity, ensuring zero flex even under the most extreme braking and steering loads.

  • The Tactile Connection: Simucube 2 Ultimate. Producing an earth-shattering 32Nm of torque, this direct-drive wheelbase translates every microscopic bump, slip angle, and weight transfer directly into the driver's hands.

  • The Control: Precision Sim Engineering (PSE) Ferrari Challenge Steering Wheel. A true 1:1 replica piece that matches the ergonomics, switchgear, and feel of the real car's cockpit.

  • The Movement: D-BOX G5 Motion System paired with an Advanced SimRacing Traction Loss Platform. Motion is what separates a game from a simulator. This setup not only pitches, rolls, and heaves, but physically steps the rear end out when the car loses grip, training the driver's brain to catch slides instinctively.

The RSR Difference: Achieving 95% Realism

Bolting top-tier hardware together is only half the battle; the real magic is in the calibration.

We don't just drop off a simulator and leave you to figure it out. Our team spent three full days on-site, building, tuning, and working one-on-one with the driver. We meticulously adjusted the D-BOX haptic feedback and traction loss profiles, dialing in the Simucube's slew rate and damping until the digital car behaved exactly like its physical counterpart.

This white-glove, collaborative tuning process is where RSR shines. Whether setting up profiles for a 992 Porsche Cup car or a Ferrari Challenge beast, our real-world racing experience dictates our telemetry adjustments. By the end of day three, we achieved what we consider the holy grail of sim racing: 95% of the real-world driving experience.

This marks the third time we’ve worked with an advanced, real-world driver to hit this incredibly elusive 95% realism threshold. When he steps into his actual race car next weekend, the muscle memory will already be locked in.

Industry Radar: What’s Next in High-End Sim Racing?

Staying at the bleeding edge means keeping our finger on the pulse of sim racing technology. If you are considering a build, here is some fresh news from April 2026 that should be on your radar:

  • Assetto Corsa EVO Drops the Ferrari 296 GT3: For our Ferrari aficionados, the highly anticipated Assetto Corsa EVO v0.6 update has officially launched, bringing the spectacular Ferrari 296 GT3 into its meticulously modeled physics engine. It is the perfect digital testing ground for anyone looking to master Maranello's latest hardware.

  • The Next Generation of Simucube is Here: While the Simucube 2 Ultimate in our recent build is a masterpiece, the sim racing world is buzzing about the brand-new Simucube 3 Ultimate lineup shipping later this year. Featuring revolutionary "LightBridge" wireless technology—which transfers power and data seamlessly through the quick release without cables—and an all-new Spoke-type IPM motor for pinpoint accuracy, the bar for high-end direct drive is being raised yet again. We are already securing allocations for our upcoming client builds.
